Imagine being able to remember your first kiss, the first time you smelt the salt air at the beach. I want you to try and imagine that a photograph is a piece of a puzzle. A one piece puzzle, Because holding that one piece completes a memory. I’ve been putting a camera to my eye for nearly ten years. I went along time before being told what was right & wrong, I never had help. I just did what I though was right and in a way that would result in a image that was exactly what I saw. I have files full of digital prints from those ten years and its plane to see that throughout the years I obevously got better. From the fan boy style of people at shows with light leak swirls and poorly constructed skate and bike photographs. 9 months ago I found out why I take photos and know why I take them in the manner I do. Anyone can take a happy snap or a location, person or object. But why are you truly takin that photo? If you are taking it because its cool and people need to know then I don’t understand. It should be to capture something. In a set of 200 photos I often only going to like 1 of them. Not because it a clean crisp, correctly exposed etc. I like it because of the moment, I liked it because eg: the emotion/connection a band has over its admirers. The joy of a mother holding her child for the first time. But at the same time, the image is also capturing something more. It’s holding sound that have you goose bumps in your favorite song. It’s the look on a person face when they come face to face with the person they love, It’s the smell. It’s everything that was around you at the exact point of you hitting the exposure. Coming out with that feeling and then a well constructed photo is what I have strived for the last 9 months. Everyone goes through life on a path that is never exactly the same to someone else. I have seen birth, love & death along with a lot more and would like to think that I have captured key points that I will always look at and remember exactly why that photo was taken. A photo isn’t a photo. A photo is something that you created, experienced and admired. A photograph is a piece of you.
